How to Automatically Curate Content in WordPress

Do you want to automatically edit content in WordPress?

Content curation allows you to share content from third-party sources on your WordPress site.

In this article, we will show you how to automatically prepare content in WordPress.

What is content editing and how can you do it right?

Content curation simply means collecting and sharing selected content from various sources.

This allows users to view the best content on a particular topic in one place.

For example, if you run a membership websitethen you can prepare a section where users see industry news from third-party sources.

Or maybe you just want to display top sports highlights from various social media accounts on your website.

Another scenario could be a WordPress Multisite where you want to curate content from all the different sites on the network.

Many websites are built specifically for content editing with automatic blogging tools.

We curate content and avoid copyright infringement and SEO penalties

Content curation is done with the intention of sharing content. It does this by giving credit to the original source and not stealing an entire copy of their work.

Basically, you can share an article with a small passage and a picture. It should have a link to the original source where users can read the entire article.

On the other hand, if you choose to publish the entire article without citing the original source, that would be considered plagiarism.

Search engines may decide not to rank your site or rate it as low quality due to lack of original content.

The sources you are copying from can file a copyright infringement complaint and get these articles removed from search engines.

It can also cause serious legal problems that can cost you financially.

The Internet is full of spam blogs that use content editing tools to set up automated blogs and serve ads. This is not a good idea given the potential financial and legal costs and how unsustainable it is in the long run.

That being said, let’s take a look at how to properly set up automatic content editing in WordPress while avoiding copyright and SEO issues.

Setting up automatic content editing in WordPress correctly

The easiest way to edit content on your WordPress website it’s easy to use an RSS feed block.

To use this method, start by editing the post or page where you want to display curated content and add an RSS block to the content area.

Add an RSS feed

In the block settings you need to enter RSS feed URL of the content source you want to display.

WordPress will then retrieve this resource and display it on the screen. With block settings, you can change its style, display information about the passage, author and date.

The downside of this method is that you will have to add the RSS feed for each feed separately.

This will be time-consuming and won’t look very nice to users.

What if you could automate the whole process, combine different resources and even categorize/classify them?

Let’s take a look at how to properly automate the entire content editing process.

Using RSS feeds to automatically edit content in WordPress

First you need to install and activate Feedzy to include. Check out our step-by-step guide for more details how to install a WordPress plugin.

There is also a premium version of Feedzy with more features, but for the sake of this tutorial we will be using the free version.

Once the plugin is activated, you need to visit Feedzy “Feed Categories page and click the Add Resource Category button at the top.

Add a resource category

On the next screen, you need to enter a title for this category.

Below that, add the URLs of the RSS feeds you want to include. Use commas between individual URLs to separate them.

Add resource URLs

After that, click the Publish button to save the feed category.

Repeat the process to create more categories.

Import selected content from sources to your WordPress site

Feedzy can import blog posts from feeds into yours WordPress blog publications.

This way, they will be stored in your WordPress database like normal posts and will give you the flexibility to do different things with your chosen content.

However, if you don’t want to import them to your WordPress site, you can skip this step.

To import blog posts, simply visit Feedzy “Import Posts page and click the New Import button at the top.

Importing posts

You must first provide a name for this import. This can be anything that helps you identify this import.

Below that, you can add individual RSS feeds or select one of the feed categories you created earlier.

Prepare to import resources

Then scroll down a bit to the “Map Contents” section.

From here, you can map the RSS feed elements to your WordPress blog post settings.

Map content

For example, you can choose which category you want to assign to all imported posts.

You can click the Insert Tag button to map the feed element to the post element. For example, you can set the item description to be used as the content of the post.

Use element tags to map post settings

Then scroll down to the General Settings section.

Here you can choose how many posts you want to import.

Finally, click the Save and Activate Import button to save the changes.

You will now be taken to the Imports page where you will see the import you just created. Simply click the Start Now button to start importing posts.

Start import

The plugin will now retrieve and import posts and add them to your WordPress site in the background.

When you’re done, you’ll need to refresh the page to see your import statistics.

Import complete

Feedzy will now automatically fetch new posts from your content feeds and import them into your WordPress site.

Displaying curated content in WordPress

Now that you’ve set up and automated the import engine for the content you want to curate, the next step is to display it on your site.

There are various ways to display curated content in WordPress through Feedzy feeds.

1st way. Get content through Feedzy RSS Feeds Block

This method is recommended if you have chosen not to import content to your WordPress site.

Simply edit the post or page where you want to display curated content and add the Feedzy RSS Feeds block to your content area.

Show Feedzy RSS feeds

You can then enter the URL of the feed you want to display or select one of the feed categories you created earlier.

You can then use the block settings panel to select the number of elements, style, and other settings for the source.

2nd way. Display imported content in WordPress

This method is more flexible, but would only work if you chose to import the content directly into your WordPress site.

Simply edit the post or page where you want to display curated content. On the edit post screen, add Latest posts block to your content area.

Add a block of latest posts

By default, the block will display your most recent articles in a regular list. You can change this in the block settings.

Here you can choose to display the excerpt, featured image, number of items, and more.

Latest posts block settings

You can also switch from list view to gallery view, choose the number of columns, or show only posts from a specific category.

Let’s say you’ve mapped all the imported content to be added to the “Industry News” category. Now you can just display that particular category as featured content.

Design and organize curated content

When you’re done, you can save or publish your post/page and view it in a new browser tab.

This is what it looked like on our demo site.

Using one of these methods will automatically display the latest posts from your content feeds.
