Most of the sites I know do not enter alternate image text for many images. I know a lot of SEOs work on this task, but sometimes there is a lot of work. One SEO said his client wanted to use a shortcut and automatically fill in any blank alternate text with his company name. John Mueller of Google responded that it “doesn’t make sense” to do so.
John added that not only does it make no sense, but it would be a waste of time.
Alternate text for an image should, by definition, explain what an image is – it would describe an image for those who cannot see the image. If you just enter your company name, it doesn’t describe the image unless it’s your company logo – I guess. I mean, on Google.com, the alternate text of the Google logo is “Google,” not the “Google logo.” However, if you have a photo and instead of saying “Photo of the name goes here” in the alternate text and enter your company name – this is not helpful to you, your users and search engines.
And if you’re trying to save time with that, all you’re doing is a waste of time, John added.
