Google has added a new content guidelines section to its Structured Data Q&A help document on education.

New guidelines. Here are the new guidelines added by Google:

  • Education question and answer pages are to follow the same content guidelines for Q&A pages.
  • Your page should contain questions and answers related to education. There should be at least one question and answer pair on your page, and the answer should be related to and answer the user’s question.
  • You are responsible for the accuracy and quality of your educational question and answer pages through this feature. If a certain amount of your content is found to be inaccurate based on our quality review and pedagogical review processes, all or part of your Q&A pages may not be eligible for this feature until the issues are resolved.

Why Google added this. Google said these guidelines were created to “ensure our users are connected to relevant learning resources.”

Disregard. If Google finds that you’re in violation of the guidelines, it can:

  • Take manual action on your site.
  • Don’t show your content as a rich result.

What is this page? Google has released an education Q&A help document on structured data in May. This help document provides instructions for adding Quiz structured data on the card page so that it appears in the Google Education Q&A Carousel, Google Assistant and Google Lens results.

Why do we care? Structured education Q&A data could help improve your visibility in Google results and potentially get you clicks as well. Now that Google has more specific instructions, please follow them to maintain your eligibility for this feature and avoid any manual action by Google.
