Google Maps now notifies reviewers when their review is not published. The email says “your review has not been published” and explains why. In the example below, Google said its moderation systems and processes thought the review was fake.
The email said, βThank you for your review [business name goes here]. Unfortunately, it has not been published because Google’s moderation systems and processes have detected content that could be a fraudulent contribution. Your post may have violated other policies as well.”
Here is a screenshot from Google Business Help Forums:
I was told that the email was sent within 15 minutes of me trying to leave a review.
In this case, the person said the review is legit, why does Google think it isn’t? Of course, Google can be wrong, as you’ve all seen over the years.
Amy Toman also posted about it on Twitter:
New and interesting. Spotted this morning on the GBP forum @StefanSomborac and me, the response to the assessment submission. Since Google increased its anti-spam filters, this is the first time that Google has directly stated why a review will not be published. pic.twitter.com/oSCjE1GdQe
