For the first time, Google has shown the view in 3D augmented reality images in Google search results in 2019 and since then we have seen each other some dealers are testing and Google also uses it for cute animals and other items. But now it seems some major retailers like Wayfair are showing some of their products in 3D on Google Search.
Just a reminder, Google did release this Technical documentation 3D/AR for developers, but removed documents and program about a year later.
Now we still see some 3D images appear in Google Search.
Brian Freiesleben shared an example Twitter which I can copy to my mobile phone for searching [black sofa]:
If you click on the view in the 3D box, you get this:
Yes, this looks different from previous snippets that had this, here’s the old UI:
Brian said going forward Twitter, “Google is testing a new look for ‘View in 3D’ in mobile search results.” Glenn Gabe added “Wow, I can see that now too. Looks like 3d/ar is on the way, as Google explained on the recent earnings call.”
