Google assessments list View the most essential news with information that takes over the internet results

Not only is Google testing multiple list view formats for the top news section, it’s also testing to make news take over the first set of web results for some queries and some searchers.

Shalom Goodman posted a screenshot Twitter for Alphabet’s earnings news and I can’t repeat it, and I’ve tried countless browsers last night and today.

Here’s a test web interface with mobile search results where the top news stories take the web results and are in a list view, pushing everything down instead of having them in a carousel:

I’m just finding that I’m seeing a lot more of this look for Google’s top news right now.

I guess Google is testing this layout and seeing how searchers respond

I imagine news publishers would appreciate this new interface, and for many popular news queries it makes sense, I suppose. But maybe not all of them. I mean, people looking for monkey goats might want thoughtful information from a health agency or website and not more attention-grabbing headlines from news publishers? I guess it depends on who is looking. 🙂
