At Universal Analytics (UA), we used to open Behavior reports > Website Content > Landing pages.

The UA Landing Pages report showed us acquisition, behavior and conversion metrics organized by the landing page visitors used to enter the site.

You can get more granular by adding segments, secondary dimensions, and advanced filters.

This data is essential for informing content strategy, prioritizing on-page optimization, or fine-tuning conversion rate optimization efforts.

inside Google Analytics 4 (GA4), the landing page report isn’t ready right away – but it’s possible and if you follow the steps in this article, you’ll only have to do it once.

How to create a landing page report in GA4

Log in to your GA4 account.

Open Reports and select Getting traffic from the Lifecycle Acquisition drop-down menu.

The standard dimension of traffic acquisition report is Default channel grouping.

A dimension is a descriptive attribute of data. It composes the rows in your traffic acquisition table and how the data is organized.

Default channel grouping represents where Google has determined that your site’s users are coming from.

If we click the drop-down arrow, we can choose different ways of organizing the same information: where the users are coming from.

However, we want to know where they landed (landing page) on our site.

The pencil icon in the upper right corner of the screen means you can customize the report.

Click the pencil icon.

Hooray! Now you can customize your GA4 reports to include only what you care about and nothing you don’t.

Editing the report will not change the way data is collected, so don’t worry about breaking anything.

OK, so the standard dimension options in the GA4 traffic acquisition report are based on the source of the traffic. We want to see which page the user entered through.

Below Report dataclick Dimensions > Add dimension and scroll (in alphabetical order) until you see Landing page.

Click to add Landing page to your list of primary dimensions.

If that’s all you need and want to do here, click Save to add Landing page as an option in the dimensions drop-down menu.

But I hope you’ll read on to learn how to customize the entire landing page report and lock it as a standard report in your main navigation.

Customizing GA4 Landing Report

Customizing the GA4 Landing Page report to reflect what you know best in Universal Analytics (UA) can be helpful.

Under Dimensions, click the three vertical dots on the right Landing page dimension and select Set to default.

Save your progress by clicking on the blue apply button in the lower right corner.

Click “Metrics” to customize the data displayed in the table columns; this is the same process as editing dimensions.

You can click X to remove the measurement and click Add a measurement to select from a list of options.

Drag and drop the metrics to arrange the order in which the table rows are displayed.

To emulate the UA Landing Page report, you would select Sessions, New Users, Engagement Rate, Avg. engagement time, number of events and conversions.

The dimensions and measurements are now set.

I’m not really interested in a bar chart for this report, so I’ll click the eye icon on the left Bar chart to hide it from sight.

“Summary cards” are displayed on the home page to give you a “snapshot” of how things are going from standard reports.

To add a landing page snapshot to your home page, click to create a new tab.

Setting up a summary card will be to your advantage. I like that my card preview shows the users of the landing page and the number of events in a table format.

Save this report as a NEW REPORT.

Saving as a NEW report is important because we don’t want to save over the top of our default traffic acquisition report. Instead, we want to create a new report using the traffic acquisition report template.

Great, our landing page report is ready.

To make this report easy to retrieve, we can add it to our main navigation, which I’ll show you next.

Adding a landing page report to the main navigation

Click on Reports and look at the bottom of the left navigation menu. You will see a folder icon with a title The library.
