John Mueller of Google was once again asked if you should prevent your site’s search results pages from being indexed. The answer is generally yes, he always washowever, John added that “a curated list of search queries is basically the equivalent of category pages with a little effort,” he said, “but I would generally block them.”
He was asked about it on Twitter where he also added: “It’s not just indexed pages: I get mail every week from sites big and small that have been bombarded with spam and are struggling to fix it.”

I can see the curated list of search queries being basically the equivalent of category pages with a little effort, but I’d generally block them. It’s not just indexed pages: every week I get emails from sites big and small that have been bombarded with spam and are struggling to fix it.

In some cases it may make sense to allow certain search query landing pages to be indexed, but in many cases it probably doesn’t make sense.
