Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that Instagram will soon begin testing a full-screen renovation of its main source.
If you blinked, you may have missed Zuckerberg’s post, as it was posted via the story on Instagram.
Here are some screenshots showing before (above) and after (below) a comparison of the new design:
This makes Instagram more like a TikTok clone, as the content takes up the entire length of the screen.
A small area at the bottom is reserved for navigation, while every other element is covered with content.
To eliminate any confusion about the new design, Zuckerberg explains that photos will continue to be an important part of Instagram.
Renovating Instagram won’t just turn into videos.
In case you don’t see the photo above, Zuckerberg’s statement reads:
“We want to make it easier to discover content and connect with friends.
Photos are still an important part of Instagram, and we’re working on ways to improve their display on a full-screen source.
Some people will soon start seeing this test.
I left to hear your feedback. “
It will be interesting to see how this works in performance, as Instagram photos are not currently uploaded in full screen.
To achieve this, the app will likely need to crop the pages of the photo, which could result in loss of detail.
Zuckerberg’s commitment to maintaining the photo-sharing experience on Instagram is at odds with what Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, said last year.
In July 2021, Mosseri said: ‘we are no longer a photo sharing app. ‘
In late January, Mosseri unveiled his plans for Instagram this year videos and messages come first.
While photos will still be part of Instagram’s new source, it’s clear that this isn’t seen as an area of business growth.
Video, especially short video, is currently the driving force behind growth. It’s Facebook, too shifting focus to videopivot caused by a fall in shares in February.
Recently, an internal letter that went to Facebook employees announced upcoming plans for restructure the source around the video.
She did not guarantee that the investment in the video would pay off. It has as many opportunities to drive away loyal users as it attracts new ones.
It is definitely a risk. We’ll probably have brand new resources on Instagram and Facebook before the end of the year, so be prepared for change.
