What if I told you that there is an easy way to passively search for profitable affiliate niches without doing a lot (or anything) of extra work?
Well, you’re in luck! Today I’m going to share with you what makes a good affiliate niche, how you can use Ahrefs ’ SEO Toolbar to find these niches and some examples of niches I found with this method.
What makes a good niche of affiliate marketing?
To find a good niche, you must first know what you are looking for. Ideally a a good associated niche has you:
- Your own interest *
- Highly paid affiliates
- Low competition
- Enough interest to be profitable
Side note.
* No matter how “good” a niche is, you can do almost anything if you have enough passion and interest in it. There are ways (such as creating courses or e-books) on how to make more money from a niche, even if it doesn’t have great affiliates. With enough dedication, you can also rank for the keywords with the highest competition.
How much a “highly paid” partner pays depends on your goals. Personally, I am looking for affiliates that pay at least $ 20-50 per sale or more. However, if you are only looking for a small side income, there may be a smaller payout for your goals.
In addition, I will accept a lower payment if the niche has keywords with low competition– which means that if the sites currently belonging to this niche are smaller affiliate sites without large marketing budgets and a multitude of already established backlinks.
Finally, a good niche of affiliates has enough interest to be profitable. I find interest by visiting how many people search for key keywords in a niche per month.
All three of these things can be explored with Ahrefs Keyword researcher. But instead of explaining how to do it, I’ll show you how to do this research almost passively – while doing Google searches (which is something you’re probably doing anyway).
Download the Ahrefs SEO Toolbar
Instead of doing all this research manually, you can have all the data you need right on the Google search results page whenever you search.
Click here to add the Ahrefs SEO Toolbar in your web browser. It looks like this:
You can do a lot with this sleek little gadget. But what interests us most in this guide is the “SERP tool” feature at the top. Go ahead and turn it on.
Now that you do a Google search, Ahrefs data is automatically filled in not only for the keyword you are looking for, but also for all the websites that rank for that keyword.
Okay, let’s talk about how to use this information to find niche affiliate marketing.
Be careful when you google things
Your goal is to get used to seeing this information every time you do a Google search.
Looking for how to fix a washing machine? Look at the data. Looking for the nearest Starbucks? Look at the data. Looking for the best hand-free soap with no added fragrances? You guessed it – look at the data.
But what are you looking for, you ask?
You’re looking keywords that have low sites Domain Ratings (DR). ranking on page # 1. Let’s say you’re looking for “the best fragrance-free hand soap” on Google.
We can see that the DR has only 6 in the second place.
DR is on a scale of 0 to 100, with 0 being the lowest and 100 being the highest. It is worth mentioning that this scale is logarithmic, which means that it is much harder to go from 60 to 70 than, for example, from 20 to 30.
If we move down, the second result is DR 11, which is also extremely low. This is a good sign if you want to find associated keywords that are easy to sort.
Note that DR is not “classification factor”Because it’s just our metrics created to quickly assess a site’s authority – not metrics made or used by Google.
However, if we see a site with a very low DR ranking on page # 1 for a keyword, it tells us that the keyword you can it is also easy to rank with a brand new website. So this technique is based on that.
Of course, experienced readers may notice that the search volume has “best hand soap with no added fragrances” 0. While that doesn’t mean they never really search for it (no keyword data is 100% accurate), it does mean that it probably won’t bring in much income.
Here comes the next step.
How to do competitive research on potential associated keywords
If you are on page no. 1 find a keyword with a low DR level, but this keyword does not have a large search volume, this does not mean that all hope is lost.
Just take these low DR sites and connect them to Ahrefs’ Website researcher.
It will show you an overview of all the keywords by which a website ranks and an estimate of how much search traffic it is gaining. Click on the number below Organic keywords department.
From here, you’ll see all the keywords for which a particular page ranks on Google. He appears to be on page # 1 (position # 9) for the keyword “fragrance-free hand soap” —which also gets 700 searches per month!
This is a good sign for you, the creator of the associated site, as it means you can potentially create a site in this niche and rank that keyword fairly easily.
But one keyword doesn’t represent an entire niche. Fortunately, you’ve already figured out everything you need to do to research keywords – simply change the drop-down menu at the top from “Prefix” to “domain with all its subdomains.”
You will now be able to see everything the keywords by which this site ranks. This means you’ll see all the keywords that a low DR site can use to reach page # 1.
Typically, if you find a site in a particular niche, you will find keywords related to that niche. In this case, the site is for random product reviews, so it is less targeted.
Let’s go back to that Google search page for “best fragrance-free hand soap” and take another result that has DR 11 to see if that gives more targeted data.
Much better! We can now see tons of “fragrance-free” niche keywords that have a low DR site on page # 1.
From here, you can decide whether this niche is interesting to you or not. But that goes beyond the scope of this article.
Final thoughts
Now you know an easy way to find niche opportunities for an affiliate company without putting in any extra effort beyond what you would normally do in one day.
Simply do your Google searches and get used to seeing DR results on sorted pages. Whenever you see a keyword with low DR results, you know it’s time to deepen.
